Cristina Braga is considered one of the most important harpists in Southern America – showing the world a harp with Brazilian soul, spreading out the possibilities of her instrument and introducing listeners worldwide to the sound of the Latin American jazz harp. At home in both popular and classical music, Cristina has won many important prizes, is principal harpist with the Rio de Janeiro Symphony and has worked as a soloist with many symphony orchestras. She is also professor of harp at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and a member of the directors’ board of the World Harp Congress. She has worked and recorded with such singers as Marisa Monte, Lenine and Nando Reis and regularly tours the USA, Europe and Japan. In 2008 she was invited by Andy Summers (guitarist of The Police) and Roberto Menescal to record on their DVD United Kingdom of Ipanema. Tárik de Souza says: “She gave a new swing to this heavy instrument.”
Dedicating her new CD "Harpa Bossa" to the bossa pioneers and their successors, she obtains performances full of swing from an instrument that was never before used or imagined for this. In her performances Cristina Braga also shows up as a singer. She is a moving vocalist with a deep melancholy in her voice that seems specially carved for the compositions of Tom Jobim and other masters of the MPB (Música Popular Brasileira). Cristina also writes her own compositions and lyrics together with her husband, bassist Ricardo Medeiros.

Cristina Braga gilt als eine der führenden Harfenistinnen in Südamerika. Sie bringt brasilianisches Flair in die ganze Welt und erweitert ständig die Möglichkeiten ihres Instruments – sowohl im Rahmen ihrer klassischen Konzerte wie auch innerhalb der MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira). Cristina Braga hat zahlreiche Preise gewonnen, ist Mitglied des Sinfonie-Orchesters Rio de Janeiro, tritt regelmäßig außerhalb Brasiliens in den USA, Europa und Japan auf und hat einen Platz im Vorsitz des World Harp Congress. Marisa Monte, Lenine, Nado Reis und andere haben sie zu Konzerten und Aufnahmen verpflichtet. 2008 luden Andy Summers (The Police) und Roberto Menescal die Harfenistin zur Mitwirkung auf ihrer DVD „United Kingdom of Ipanema“ ein. Tárik de Souza sagt: „Sie hat ihrem schwierigen Instrument einen ganz neuen Schwung gegeben.“
Ihre neue CD „Harpa Bossa“ widmet Cristina Braga den Bossa-Pionieren und ihren Nachfolgern und bringt dabei ein Instrument zum Swingen, das für diese Art von Musik nie gedacht oder benutzt wurde. Sie ist außerdem eine bewegende Vokalistin, deren melancholische Stimme wie für die Kompositionen von Antonio Carlos Jobim und seiner Kollegen gemacht scheint. Cristina schreibt auch eigene Songs, zusammen mit ihrem Mann, dem Bassisten Ricardo Medeiro.
