rec. March 1997
Inspired by legends like Willie Dixon, Albert Collins and Johnny Winter, Canadian bluesman Marty Hall (now a resident of Germany) plays more than 200 concerts a year for enthusiastic audiences all over Europe and Canada. A rising star on the European blues scene, he shared the stage with Muddy Waters and Johnny Copeland and was a featured artist on many major blues festivals. Marvelling at his "fast, perfect solos combined with a distinctive voice," critics describe Marty Hall's music as "rockin' blues in a classic way." His tour schedule for 1998 includes concerts in Italy (in March), Belgium (in March), Canada (in June/July), Germany, France and other countries.
On his third album, "Tried & True," the guitarist/singer presents a well-tried mixture of originals and classics (by such as Willie Dixon, Percy Mayfield, Jimmy Reed, and Big Bill Broonzy). The style is very much his own: rockin' blues in small settings with deep feeling, power and fun - yet without a drum set. In addition to the leader's mastership, the CD features one of the world's best blues harp players, Butch Coulter (known for his perfomances with Albert Collins, Jimmy Page and Mick Taylor) who gives an outstanding solo performance in his own composition "Moondance In Tajikistan."
